LEGAL ISSUES
VICTIM INFORMATION AND NOTIFICATION EVERYDAY (VINE): VINE has been providing victims and concerned citizens with the power of information for decades, allowing these individuals to have the sense of security that they deserve by accessing information about offenders. VINE can be accessed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to provide the most reliable information for custody status changes and criminal case information.
WOMEN’S LAW: This site has state-by-state legal information and resources for victims, as well as advice on how to leave an abusive situation, gather evidence of abuse, and prepare for court. Despite its name, WomensLaw.org provides information that is relevant to people of all genders, not just women. Their Email Hotline will provide legal information to anyone who reaches out with legal questions or concerns regarding domestic violence, sexual violence, or any other topic covered on WomensLaw.org.
DIRECTORY OF CRIME VICTIM SERVICES: This online resource is from the Office for Victims of Crime (OVC). Since its launch in 2003, the Directory has helped thousands of crime victims and service providers find non-emergency crime victims service agencies in the United States and abroad. Search by State or Country. Go to the home page and click “Search the Directory.”
LEGAL AID SOCIETY: Legal Aid Societies exist throughout the United States. To find one in your area, use the Internet search field in your browser to locate the closest group to you. Type in LEGAL AID SOCIETY, YOUR CLOSEST MAJOR CITY and hit ENTER. Be diligent about which site you choose to pursue to make sure you are not charged outright for information. Legitimate sites also offer important links to other groups that may be of assistance. Here are a few examples.
